voted Best Cigar Company in Nicaragua, is the country’s premium cigar brand, made completely by hand with 100% premium Nicaraguan tobacco. Mombacho Cigars was born of a deep admiration for the passion, persistence and patience that’s a hallmark of the Nicaraguan geography, and way of life. Every Mombacho Cigar is a slow burning tribute to these rare and remarkable qualities. In the last decade, the country has overtaken Honduras and Cuba to become the world’s second largest cigar producer, exporting over 125 million cigars each year.

Objectives:

In 2019, Mombacho Cigars faced some challenges with their marketing strategies. It has increasingly become more difficult to promote tobacco products on the majority of social media platforms. These specific restrictions impeded the company’s growth, particularly on digital platforms, as it is not possible to promote cigars with ads or sponsored posts with influencers. In addition, content was also needed for their latest partnership with Diplomático Rum, one of the world’s finest rum brands, to highlight the Mombacho Diplomático Rum Cigar.

When Mombacho Cigars reached out to our team at Skycrew Films, we determined that a total revamp of their current marketing strategies was necessary. There were 3 primary objectives for the new content: classy, sexy and luxury.

Solution:

We decided to redesign the marketing strategies by including the element of travel into the content. The result was the idea of traveling with and enjoying Mombacho Cigars.

We shot and filmed the campaigns in two countries.

We started in St. Lucia, where we shot at The Landings Resort And Spa, one of the island’s most luxurious resorts. We were able to utilise their facilities; specifically the elevators, piano and yachts, and we gathered a team of models, a makeup artist and a hairstylist to bring the vision to life.

In Nicaragua, we shot in Granada and at Playa Maderas, where we were able to create content with a very rustic and colonial look. These specific locations were able to satisfy our criteria: classy, sexy and luxury.

This content was also used to revamp their YouTube channel by being able to promote the brand using content with influencers.

In Nicaragua, we filmed the annual travel experience for 2019. The participants flew in from all around the world and enjoyed an activity-filled itinerary, including an ABC tasting, dinners and a couple of days at the beach.
